The Quest of the Golden Fleece
36″ x 48″
acrylic on canvas
from the “Modern Mythology” Collection

This piece sold from my New Orleans atelier recently and I’ve been preparing it for shipment, so I thought it a good time to share it again here on the blog. It was inspired by the tale from mythology with the same name, but I sought to reinterpret the story in a new way. There are so many ways this ancient tale has been interpreted and you might be interested to read up a little here. But for me this piece is a reference to the many ways we attempt to carry the various gifts we’ve been given, undertake great journeys to guard our blessings, and find that what is needed most is faith that your ship will weather the storm. The faith is represented by the dove, which also has great symbolic meaning with various interpretations. Ultimately however, my intention is always to leave enough space in a painting so that the viewer can assign its meaning for their own needs, as I’m sure the new owners will do. That is the only way for art to be our common healer, universal language and timeless testimony.
