A driver was arrested Monday on suspicion of murder after he allegedly struck and killed a man who was jogging in Walnut, authorities said.

Just before 6 a.m., Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies received a 911 call from a Walnut resident who said a car crashed into the brick wall outside his house in the 20200 block of Barnard Avenue, Deputy Sara Rodriguez said in a statement.

A man was driving east on La Puente Road at 5:52 a.m. when he struck a man jogging in the bike lane, Rodriguez said. The driver carried the jogger on the hood of his 1989 Toyota Camry for “several yards” before crashing into the wall.
