Samsung Galaxy S6 Spotted In Shipping Manifest To India, Aluminum Unibody Leaks

The Samsung Galaxy S6 is likely to be one of the biggest smartphone releases of 2015, so it should be of no surprise that rumors about the upcoming flagship are coming out at a furious pace. The latest bit of news on the Galaxy S6, interestingly enough, comes from a shipping manifest.

A SM-G920F unit, which we detailed previously here on Hot Hardware, has been dispatched to India for research and development according to GSM Arena. This bit of news shouldn’t be too surprising to anyone, as Samsung needs to field test its devices to ensure a smooth global launch with minimal issues (Apple knows this all too well).

But the Galaxy S6’s voyage to India isn’t the only fresh info pouring in today; it’s also reported that the Galaxy S6 may feature a display that is curved on not just one side (like the Galaxy Note Edge) but on both sides. The curves are also said to be more subtle than what’s seen on the Galaxy Note Edge.

And if that wasn’t enough fresh info to digest, we’re also getting a look at what are supposedly the first images of the Galaxy S6’s aluminum unibody frame. Nowhereelse.fr, which has a pretty good track record when it comes to device leaks, has posted three images of what it claims to be the Galaxy S6.

The move to an aluminum body is definitely a welcome change from the plastic that’s been prevalent in previous Galaxy models, and is line with Samsung’s hopes of reinvigorating the design of its smartphone lineup. The Galaxy S6, codenamed “Project Zero”, is vital to Samsung’s push to boost its lagging mobile devices unit.

Rumored specs for the Galaxy S6 include a 64-bit octa-core Exynos 7420 or a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor, 3GB of RAM, a 5.5” QHD display, and a 20MP or 16MP rear camera. We also wouldn’t be surprised to see a mobile payment system launch with the device if Samsung manages to work out a deal with LoopPay.
