Kimpton Hotels opened its first hotel outside the Americas on May 22, 2017, having finally acquired and developed a European boutique property of the type that originally inspired founder Bill Kimpton during his travels in Europe.
The Kimpton De Witt is centrally located, close to Amsterdam’s Centraal Station and brings a neighborhood bar and restaurant along with its 274-room luxury boutique hotel. The late 20th century building was previously a Crowne Plaza hotel, and boasts architectural highlights inspired by the Dutch Golden Age. It has been refurbished with the guidance of a local architect whose portfolio includes famous monuments across the city.
Foremost among the hotel’s 9 suites is the Penthouse De Witt, the split-level signature suite with a spectacular 30 square meter roof terrace with views of the city over the town house rooftops.
Another unique, characterful feature is the “Little House” – a 16th-century four-storey residence that can be rented privately by groups. This house within a hotel has two king size rooms plus a first-floor living room, and the property was the childhood home of the Dutch playwright P.C. Hooft.
In keeping with Kimpton Hotels’ values of unusual, personal and inclusive service, The Kimpton DeWitt will have a hosted “social hour” every evening. The House Bar will specialize in gins and genevers, the local variation of gin, and there will be a coffee and beignet bar and, in the lobby, an all-day complimentary tea station.
Neighboring the hotel is the Wyers Bar and Restaurant, offering Dutch influences and American staples.
Other facilities include a gym, and like every Kimpton hotel, the Kimpton DeWitt will offer complimentary bikes for guests. With the hotel’s Van Moof bikes you’ll be able to pedal among the canals and slip right into the deeply ingrained cycling culture that’s just one of the Dutch capital’s many laid-back charms.
