Lunch & Learn with Brad Andersohn Zillow's National Outreach Manager

Reblogger
Education & Training with Retired Executive Director of Education at eXp Non-Licensed

I wanted to take a moment to thank Kathleen for having an open mind and heart, and for sharing her experience when revisiting what Zillow can do for her clients and her business. I hope others will take a moment to re-visit Zillow as well. At the very least, call me and see what's in it for them?

Kathleen, please keep me posted and up-to-date with the contact and lead we established at the end of the lunch and learn? That was great and you were awesome. I commend you for stepping up on the spot.  I was very impressed that you took full advantage of the opportunity and turned it into an appointment with a new and potential client.

You are a true real estate warrior and I applaud you.  :-)

Lunch & Learn with Brad Andersohn Zillow's National Outreach Manager

The Lunch and Learn's guest speaker was Brad Andersohn, Zillow's National Outreach Manager.  Some long-time ActiveRain members know that Brad Andersohn used to be with ActiveRain.  He still has an ActiveRain profile he just does not work at ActiveRain any longer.

Confession of a San Jose Real Estate Agent: When I was first invited to the lunch and learn I immediately was turned off and declined the invitation with the thought ...

ZILLOW ... I HATE ZILLOW!

I truly respect the lender, Karen Levine with Guaranteed Rate, who invited me. I realized that I was being closed-minded and that if nothing else, I wanted to support Karen and that it would be nice to see Brad again.  I last Brad, and his beautiful wife, at an ActiveRain Meet-Up in Livermore about one year ago.

Not only did I decide to go but I invited another fellow AR Member, Anja Kerstens to join me.   There is definitely an "X" Factor in the rain that cannot measure the connections we make or what may come of them.

With my heart and mind open I attended the Zillow lunch and learn. I probably could have skipped lunch because I certainly ate a non-stop serving of humble pie.

photo of pie with "Humble Pie" written on it

I was so WRONG about Zillow.  I decided 10 years ago that I did not like the fact that they sold zip codes.  I shut the door and never looked back.  Today with an open mind the Zillow door opened again.

Brad's presentation went over yet everyone in the room wanted more, including me. The only critique I had about the event was that it was no long enough. At the end of the meeting I confessed to the entire group that I did not want to go because I hated Zillow.

Brad asked me why I felt that way and I told him:  ignorance, mis-information, lack of real knowledge, closed-minded, I did not like the fact that Zillow sells zip codes, etc.

I am glad I went. I will definitely do many of the things Brad recommended, including watching the daily webinars which take place at 10am (PST). The Zillow Academy schedule can be found here. There are so many things that real estate agents and homeowners can do on Zillow, and it's free.

Thanks Brad and Karen for a very informative Zillow lunch and learn.

Brad,  Thanks for the Re-Blog.  I appreciate it.  I will keep you posted on the lead.  Would'nt that be a hoot if it results in close to a $1M sale.  Thanks again for the eye-opening experience.

Guess I need to consider Zillow and be open minded.  Great re-blog to open our eyes to positive input!

I have to admit that I'm not in the fan "camp" primarily due to the very inaccurate rent Zestimates that are published for the public to view. I quit going to the Zillow site entirely out of frustration.

It was only two nights ago that I received a call from a buyer of mine who had purchased a home.  She was livid because a home she had purchased the internet thru Zillow... for a price $5,000 lower than she paid, and that had a Zestimate of about $35,000 less than she paid.  I think I've got it held together with bubble gum and such, but it sure is not going to be easy.  I hear this happens all the time.

And... I can only imagine my own reaction if I were a "listed home seller" and I found my own house on the internet... with quite a few other Realtor's names attached to it... and all of which showed it priced below what the price actually was.

Grrrr.

Hey Mark, thanks for taking the time to read and comment.

While I'd love to see you a "fan" that's not as important to me as making sure you know and understand how these tools are created and work to your benefit and could help your business? The rent Zestimate shouldn't be a reason to keep you from connecting with local consumers (on Zillow) in your market who might need your services in the buying and selling process.

On the other hand, I would never force someone to use me, my site, the tools and services I provide if they didn't want to, or weren't interested in understanding fully how it all works. Feel free to contact me anytime if you have questions or need assistance with anything Zillow, I'm right down the street from you here in Benicia.

Hi Karen - homes are not selling right now for even the suggested listing price in many/most areas and cases.  Sellers are getting and accepting offers for thousands of dollars over asking price due to the lack of inventory. Zillow is just a starting point much like how you would use WebMD.com.  We rely on the local agents to help and educate consumers as to the true value of any home which right now is difficult for ANYONE to determine based on the current market and condition.

I would suggest (in your case) to speak to any of these agents in your local market to see all the different ways they are handling the same consumer concerns or questions etc, and listen to what and how they are converting their Zillow contacts and leads into clients regardless of how they are first connected: We Can Show You How We Do It?

You are also welcome to join me anyday and everyday at Zillow Academy where we interview top agents from all over the country who share how they are taking these same types of opportunities to educate, capture, and convert Zillow contacts into clients... and doing it very successfully.  Video Library of Top Agents Tips, Tools, and Secrets

Brad - It is because of you that I took a second look at Zillow as well and tried to look at it more openly.

Thanks Christine - Most of what I do everyday is try to help agents and brokers understand how Zillow works and how they can use our site and tools to (bottom line) connect with more local consumers and close more business.

Supporting that cause with my personal perserverence and passion is how I roll.  :)
