If you’ve ever wondered why good art is so expensive, I’ll tell you. It is because of the price the artist has paid. And I’m not talking about the cost of paint and canvas. I’m talking about the sacrificed social life, the missed holidays, the truncated relationships, wrestled doubt, fear banished, sore muscles and fatigued brain… all the miscommunications and hurt feelings that had to be risked in order to tell the whole truth in the art. The fact remains that at the end of that heartbreaking journey, the sale price is the least of it and often barely makes up for it.
