Kurdistan Region Cuts Off Electricity to IS Militants

The Iraqi Kurdistan government has cut off electricity to Mosul and the surrounding areas currently controlled by Islamic State (IS) militants.

“Now that we have cut off electricity to ISIS, we can send the extra capacity to Kirkuk,” said the General Director of Electricity in the Kurdistan Region, Dana Baban.

Mosul province in Iraq was captured by IS militants at the beginning of June this year and they have made it a centre for their terrorist operations.

The electricity sector has been affected by the political and economic situation in Iraq, especially in Northern Iraq, where many areas have been bought under the control of Jihadi group throughout this year.
