1.  FIREWORKS AT LOS ANGELES COUNTRY CLUB

Please be informed that Friday evening, August 15th, at approximately 8:15 p.m., the Los Angeles Country Club will be conducting a fireworks show lasting approximately 8 minutes during a funeral service at our Clubhouse. Please take note that these will be ground and near-ground fireworks only, with the Fire Marshall permit dictating nothing projected over 45 feet in the air. We do not anticipate any views of the fireworks from outside neighbors, nor do we anticipate an over-abundance of noise. We appreciate your understanding and hope this will not be an inconvenience for you.

Thank you,
The Los Angeles Country Club Management

3.  PLEASE REPORT DEAD BIRDS

West Nile Virus Alert
If you find a dead bird, particularly a crow, jay, magpie, raven, sparrow, finch, or raptor, or dead tree squirrel, please file an online report at www.westnile.ca.gov or call toll-free 1-877-968-2473.

Dead bird and dead tree squirrel reports are very important because they are usually the first indication that the virus is active in an area, and this allows CDPH to monitor the virus throughout the year. Although dead tree squirrels are not currently tested, the reports are still useful for surveillance.

4.  THINGS YOUR BURGLAR WON’T TELL YOU

We will be posting a few of these items every week in the Holmby News. These insights into the way burglars “think” could help save your home from being burglarized:

1. I’ll break a window to get in, even if it makes a little noise. If your neighbor hears one loud sound, he’ll stop what he’s doing and wait to hear it again. If he doesn’t hear it again, he’ll just go back to what he was doing. It’s human nature.

2. I’m not complaining, but why would you pay all that money for a fancy alarm system and leave your house without setting it?

3. I love looking in your windows. I’m looking for signs that you’re home, and for flat screen TVs or gaming systems I’d like. I’ll drive or walk through your neighborhood at night, before you close the blinds, just to pick my targets.

4. Avoid announcing your vacation on your Facebook page. It’s easier than you think to look up your address. Parents: caution your kids about this. You see this every day.

5. To you, leaving that window open just a crack during the day is a way to let in a little fresh air. To me, it’s an invitation.

6. If you don’t answer when I knock, I try the door. Occasionally, I hit the jackpot and walk right in.
