Sarah Palin Suing New York Times for Defamation

13

Sarah Palin, former Alaska governor and vice presidential candidate, has launched a lawsuit against the New York Times, alleging defamation.

Watch out, New York Times: Sarah Palin is coming for you, carting a defamation lawsuit and a team of capable lawyers.

Her suit comes on the heels of a newspaper editorial board’s decision to write a piece that linked Palin’s political action committee to the 2011 shooting of then-congresswoman Gabby Giffords — a link that was never proven and for which the New York Times was forced to issue a retraction and apology.

Basically, the New York Times, in its June 14 editorial, smeared Palin as inciting the shooting. That claim was false; it was widely known and shown post-shooting that the man who fired at Giffords — and who killed and injured dozens of others — was mentally ill and infatuated with the then-congresswoman.

Palin, in her suit, said the New York Times knew this, but went ahead with its editorial that smeared her just the same.

More, from the Daily Caller:

“‘Mrs. Palin brings this action to hold The Times accountable for defaming her by publishing a statement about her that it knew to be false: that Mrs. Palin was responsible for inciting a mass shooting at a political event in January 2011,’ Palin’s suit states.

“‘Specifically, on June 14, 2017, The Times Editorial Board, which represents the ‘voice’ of The Times, falsely stated as a matter of fact to millions of people that Mrs. Palin incited Jared Loughner’s January 8, 2011, shooting rampage at a political event in Tucson, Arizona, during which he shot nineteen people, severely wounding United States Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, and killing six, including Chief U.S. District Court Judge John Roll and a nine-year-old girl.’

“The lawsuit states that the paper ‘published and promoted its Editorial Board’s column despite knowing that the linchpin of its ‘sickening pattern’ of politically-incited shootings was the false assertion that Mrs. Palin incited Loughner to murder six people, among them a child and federal judge, and seriously wound numerous others.’

“It goes on to state: ‘As the public backlash over The Times’ malicious column mounted, it responded by making edits and ‘corrections’ to its fabricated story, along with half-hearted Twitter apologies–none of which sufficiently corrected the falsehoods that the paper published. In fact, none mentioned Mrs. Palin or acknowledged that Mrs. Palin did not incite a deranged man to commit murder.’

“Palin claims the editorial ‘exceeded the bounds of legality, decency and civility by publishing the false and defamatory column.'”

Palin wants at least $75,000 in damages from the newspaper.

Again, from the Daily Caller:

“In the NYT’s editorial, which has since been updated, the editors claimed there was a “clear” link to incitement between Jared Loughner’s attempted assassination of Giffords, and a map Palin had created that placed crosshairs over districts that Republicans needed to flip in the 2012 election. No such link exists.”

Good, every possible chance law fare must be waged on especially the lame stream media for its shameless and brainlessly constant lying and character assassination. It is too bad there is no way to sue them for censorship or ignoring real news.

The NYT should be forced, as part of its fine and punishment, to not only write a glowing article on Ms Palin, but to print a full-page ad stating “we’re sorry, Sarah Palin.” Wonder if they would continue that practice again…..

With the amount of the demanded settlement at a paltry $75,000 this is mostly a symbolic gesture but a necessary one; she could not afford not to take action. The problem with lefties is that they are scared of Palin what with that TV series “Sarah Palin’s Alaska” in which she was shown on camera taking down a caribou with a high-powered rifle. The left’s neurotic fixation with all things pertaining to firearms, such as “targeted” electoral contests, is what got the NYT’s ass in trouble.
