In fact, there was a very good reason to think it could end in the terrible act that he did. The reason is that he was becoming more and more unyielding in his views on Islam. Authorities continue to ignore this at their own peril, and ours.

Valeria Collina tried last June to enter the east London fast-food restaurant where her son Youssef Zaghba worked in the kitchen. He blocked her at the door, saying she couldn’t sit there unaccompanied by a male relative.
“He was becoming more and more unyielding in his views on Islam,” Ms. Collina said in an interview outside Bologna. “But there was no reason to think it could end in the terrible act that he did.”…

Mothers tend to endure a lot for their children, muslims ones a bit too much. Sometimes even boys have to be disciplined, somewhat unusual in muslim families.

The problem is that Islam has a very extreme black-and-white, us-or-them mentality and worldview. If you are not a Muslim, then you are automatically labeled an infidel, to be dealt with one way or another eventually.
