I will use this commentary on this article to submit what I believe is the problem involving Europe, and will likely occur here in the U.S. Yesterday, 6-6-17, I had the opportunity to listen to commentary made by Charles Krauthammer (sic.) of the Fox news station in which he discussed his views on what and how assimilation into American society would affect those of the Islamic persuasion. I’ve read his book and I have listened to his comments on many occasions as he expressed his views on many issues facing this country. I do think of him as an intelligent man, who generally is right thinking and a realist. His commentary concerned the violence of Muslims which is occurring in Europe and was about why the societies in Europe have been unable to absorb the Muslim refugees, causing them to be unable to assimilate and accept the peaceful social mores of European culture while simultaneously rejecting the teaching and promotion of Islamic Jihad and its promotion of worldwide dominance and subjugation. He concluded that the failure of Europe is directly related to Europe’s inability to channel new immigrants into their social/economic systems, essentially forcing those refugee immigrants into independent and ghetto type living, leaving them with little hope of prosperity and the better life which then precludes many of them from recognizing that their belief system must first comply with European mores and culture that rejects domination and subjugation. He pointed out, as I have said on many occasions, that assimilation of all previous immigrants coming here to the U.S. has been the case because we have been able to motivate our émigrés’ to accept what it means to be an American first and that those immigrants came here with an acceptable expectation that they wanted to become American’s first, recognizing that the culture and beliefs of the past would have to be altered if those beliefs or culture was contrary to what being an American was all about, and, he believed, that hopefully second and third generation believers of Islam will recognize that being an American requires one to accept our form of government and reject the promotion of overthrowing and dominating of all others. Unfortunately, although I would hope he is right, I am very uncertain that the believers of Islam today that are coming from the Middle East have that capacity to accept what being American is all about, to the exclusion of the cultures in which they grew up in, and I believe we are seeing the ghetto society begin developing here which does not bode well for their future conduct as accepting American’s. While I hope the future proves him right, and that the Islamic world of people will assimilate as did prior immigrants such as the Italians, Irish, Africans, Chinese, Indians, Europeans, Hispanics, etc., all of different religious backgrounds, including Islamists did previously, I am not ready to believe that today those immigrants from Middle Eastern cultures will be able to accept Americanism as he believes they should, as I am unable to conclude that those immigrants come into this country with the mindset of prior immigrants that have melted into our society.
