Brooklyn Tech is a public school. Why are they accommodating the Ramadan Fast? What happened to the separation of religion and state that required no presence of religion in the public schools, for which the ACLU fought for so many years? Now suddenly Islamic observance is fine in public schools, and you’re a racist-islamofauxbic-anti-muslim-bigot if you complain.

FORT GREENE, Brooklyn (WABC) — Brooklyn Tech seniors will gather at Pier Sixty for the prom on June 3, but not all their classmates will be able to attend the big bash at the hot spot billed as the largest waterfront venue in Manhattan.
Story continues below advertisementThe party this year falls during Ramadan, a month-long time of religious fasting and prayer for observant Muslims.
“Obviously the date wasn’t the best date,” said senior Pakeza Sahbbir, who will be not attending. “You’re not suppose to listen to music during Ramadan, so that’s why it’s not really allowed.”
In an online petition, students are asking school officials to move the prom to another day so that everyone can participate. About 1,300 students go to Brooklyn Tech, but the school does not track religious affiliation.
“I know how it feels to fast,” student Saima Afrin said. “I feel very tired throughout the day, so I won’t want to go out. I’d sleep and stuff.”
In an effort to accommodate everyone, school officials said they won’t serve food at the prom until 9 p.m., after fasting ends at sundown.
The principal also met with the Muslim Student Association Tuesday to make sure this never happens again….

Well if they serve meat next Good Friday we’ll have to call them on it. Also aren’t there any Hindu students, aren’t Hindus offended by eating beef? I guess pork is right out of the question now too.

Many muslims in India did not go to Pakistan. Same as many Arabs did not move out of Israel after the partition into Jordan and Israel. The Palestinians, a newly made up name after WW II under the British Mandate, still refuse to move out of Israeli territory. The reality is that no other Arab state wants them.

Why bother attending muslim event if you are not a muslim, and if you are, it makes you an apostate if dancing and music are involved. As well, muslims are not supposed to have friends or helpers who are not muslims, their domination of this event indicated they see the other students as inferior, thus forcing them into submission. islam is deservedly the loathsome despised thing it portrays itself as.

How about all Jews demanding Kosher food? – is the food at the prom Halal – just asking, Christians demanding appropriate concessions such as no meat on holy days and Saint’s days, Hindus and Sikhs demanding concessions on Diwali, All religions chiming in to have their religions represented in the public schools if Islam is.

If you attend a school district sponored event and the school district has ordered the school district police to enforce Sharia compliance on all students and other participants, you will be in violation of the school district policy which enforces Sharia. You will probably be thrown out of the prom and be issued a ticket by the school police for disrupting the event.
This is a clear issue of the school district supporting Islam over the US Constitution separation of religion and state.

“Obviously the date wasn’t the best date,” Really?? Ramadan lasts a whole month. When do you expect the schools to have Senior Prom, in October? Or should they wait until after Eid, June 25th … at which point nearly every school has closed for the summer.
Better yet, ignore all the religions and just do what you want.

When I was in the 2nd grade in 1967 in Lawton, Oklahoma, we had a “Bible altar” in my public school classroom and the teacher would read out of the Bible for a few minutes every day. Then the US Supreme Court said you can’t have religion (meaning Christianity or Judaism) in the public schools and the Bible altar was removed.
Do public schools now have “Koran altars” in every classroom and say it is not religious but it is just respecting another “culture” in a way that Christianity and Judaism would never be respected as a culture?

Agreed. When I first started teaching and coaching in ’77, I failed to see the rationale behind home schooling. Year by year, with the influx of cheap politics, it became painfully obvious.

In 1967, that would have been on the back side of the relevant ruling. What SCOTUS actually ruled is that Bible study can’t be compulsory (because that’s not freedom of religion) during the school day (okay after dismissal).

Another example that places of education have a preponderance of left-leaning fools. If student bodies weren’t the same, it could be challenged, but they ARE the same. WE, however, must continue doing what we are doing already, challenging Islam and Muslims at every level, most predominantly on social media (as Pamela does so well), as our only hope that officials like these are challenged and ridiculed, will come from that. We cannot say that it won’t happen, all over the internet Islam is being exposed. I feel sick about this article, but we should not be discouraged, quite the reverse is the proper attitude to take to this. Go to it/keep at it, people!

If their religion is so important to them, why would they want to go to a prom? More BS demands. If they feel so left out, go to a madrassah or return from where thay came from to an Islamic culture.
Obviously separation of church and state does not apply to muslims. Why not?

Why are non-Moslems being forced to observe the Ramadan fast.
If the Moslems want to have a Sharia compliant prom then can organize a separate one for themselves.
This is another act of Islamic supremacy and the non-Moslems students should sue the school district for imposing Islam on them and violating the “No Establishment Clause” of the First Amendment.

The prom is a “banquet” event, i.e. food is served. Who would attend a banquet where no food is served.
Send the Moslem kids to a Sharia compliant prom sponsored by the local Islamic High School.
Moslem students should not be attending a high school prom because it involves socialising between the genders who are not your immediate relatives which is haram / حَرَام.
The prom would be considered by Sharia as Zināʾ (زِنَاء) or zina (زِنًى or زِنًا), an Islamic legal term referring to unlawful sexual intercourse or mixing of the genders. The Quran disapproved of the promiscuity prevailing in Arabia at the time, 6th century A.D., and several verses refer to unlawful sexual intercourse, including one that prescribes the punishment of 100 lashes for fornicators.
Regarding the prom the Koran says:
“Nor come nigh to fornication/adultery: for it is a shameful (deed) and an evil, opening the road (to other evils).” — Qur’an, Sura 17 (Al-Isra), ayat 32.
“The woman and the man guilty of fornication/adultery,- flog each of them with a hundred stripes: Let not compassion move you in their case, in a matter prescribed by Allah, if ye believe in Allah and the Last Day: and let a party of the Believers witness their punishment.” — Qur’an, Sura 24 (An-Nur), ayat.
Regarding the prom the Hadith says:
Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Apostle as saying: “Allah has decreed for every son of Adam his share of zina, which he will inevitably commit. The zina of the eyes is looking, the zina of the tongue is speaking, one may wish and desire, and the private parts confirm that or deny it.” — Sahih al-Bukhari, 8:77:609,Sahih Muslim, 33:6421.
‘Ubada b. as-Samit reported: Allah’s Messenger as saying: Receive teaching from me, receive teaching from me. Allah has ordained a way for those women. When an unmarried male commits adultery with an unmarried female, they should receive one hundred lashes and banishment for one year. And in case of married male committing adultery with a married female, they shall receive one hundred lashes and be stoned to death. — Sahih Muslim, 17:4191.
Zināʾ encompasses extramarital sex and premarital sex.
Zināʾ encompasses extramarital sex (between a married Muslim man and a married Muslim woman who are not married to one another), and premarital sex (between unmarried Muslim man and unmarried Muslim woman).

If I was a student at that facility I wouldn’t bother going to the prom. I would get a bunch of friends together and have our own prom somewhere else. Let the mussies and the worshipers have their prom under their Sharia rules

Um how about it’s not just the ‘food’ issue… Ramadan, if anyone truly cares to read it..is closer to Lent; but those who follow the muslim tyranny must go without any ‘pleasures’ at all during the month long holiday..sometimes it’s a month and a half!! The darn thing is never within the same time fram and it roves around on the calander like some kind of night stalker!! It’s insane!!
Since our constitution, education and everything else ‘normal’ for American culture is ananthem to Islam…period, end of story. They should be home schooled…keep their own crazy beliefs out of the public square and told the same thing any other real religion is told..keep it at home and in your houses of worship!!

Why would they even consider going to a prom in the first place? Nothing but a bunch of infidels and indecently dressed girls that should not be in the same place as the boys to begin with, makes no sense to me, except to act the victim and cause trouble.
