Sacramento May Start Paying for Legal Defense of Undocumented Immigrants

California politicos have proposed to spend up to $300,000 to help illegals stay in the city of Sacramento — angering taxpayers and federal authorities, the latter of whom are in the midst of cracking down on sanctuary cities.

Sacramento City Council members are going to vote on a proposal to shell out $300,000 for illegals who need legal aid to fight off deportations.

Sacramento City Council members are due to vote on the funding this Thursday.

Story continues below advertisement

If it passes, that means illegals in the city will have some cool cash at their disposal to help fight off deportation attempts.

Unbelieveable.

Here’s more, from the Sacramento Bee:

“The City Council will vote Thursday on a proposal to invest in an education and legal defense network for undocumented immigrants, with the money coming out of a general fund that supports most core city services. The plan under consideration would also strengthen Sacramento’s status as a sanctuary city by turning into law privacy policies that prohibit city employees – including police – from making inquiries into immigration status.

“It is a modest investment, but it is a very important investment,” said Mayor Darrell Steinberg. “It says very clearly to our community, especially those who are affected by these unconstitutional orders, that ‘we are going to stand with you.’ We have to back up our values with real action to help people who feel at risk and who may be actually at risk.”

“Both the sanctuary city ordinance and legal defense fund were proposed by a Safe Haven Task Force formed at City Hall in February. The task force was put in place in response to executive orders by President Donald Trump calling for increased enforcement of federal immigration laws.

[the_ad id=”90673”]

“Councilman Eric Guerra, who headed the task force, said turning the city’s sanctuary stance from policy into law would put “more teeth” in its position and “makes it relevant to the context we see today, the scapegoating of immigrants.”

“About 49,000 Sacramento residents are not citizens, including roughly 4,100 children, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. That’s about 10 percent of the city’s residents. Some of them are here legally, some are not – the census bureau does not ask about legal status.

“The new money would help fund what is being called the Sacramento Family Unity, Educations and Legal Network for Immigrants, or FUEL, a collection of local immigration attorneys, nonprofits and law schools specializing in immigration law.

“The group will hire up to two attorneys to provide legal assistance to an estimated 750 families each year and conduct “Know Your Rights” information sessions in schools, churches and other community gathering places for hundreds more. The network will likely seek grants from other nonprofit agencies to expand its financial capacity.”

Meanwhile, in other parts of the state, law abiding citizens have just been gouged even further by the out of control CA gov. Higher gas taxes, higher car registration fees (they were already obscenely high) have just been put in to place, with no end in sight. The CA government is more concerned with the ‘rights’ of illegals, than they are for the people who pay their salaries. Nothing less than government sanctioned theft.

Jerry Brown and most of the dems in CA belong in padded isolation cells, or the gallows, in some cases.

The f’ing traitors in the Caliphornia state government R desperate to throw out Proposition 13 (which capped the ridiculous increases in property taxes that were the norm). My friend’s father, a teacher, was forced out of Caliphornication because he couldn’t afford the ridiculous property taxes when he retired.

Californian is already bankrupt.
Teacher unions have floated a bond a LONG TIME AGO, they won’t be due for decades. That will be AFTER the current crew of parasites are literally dead. It snuck through.

Good, let the do gooders put their money where their mouths are. Make sacramento a sanctuary city, with it paying the legal fees of the busloads of criminals seeking sanctuary there, other cities can help by given illegal immigrants free transportation to sacramento to take advantage of it largess.

Our country has been usurped by those who believe anyone who wants to come to the USA can and should be allowed to stay. Imagine multiple millions entering our country each year unabated. The left achieves their goal, to ultimately destroy the USA. It isn’t about the individual, it isn’t about freedom, opportunity, empathy: it’s about destruction of our way of life.

Yup, if they can destroy our economy, then we will not be burning fossil fuels, we’ll mostly starve to death, and nature can take over. That’s the goal for many.
For many others the goal is a socialist utopia like those in Europe – well, libtards believe Europe is a utopia.
They’re going to get their way. There are more of them than of good folks. I’m glad I didn’t have any kids to live thru the bleak future. Of course, I’m part of the problem – the bad folks are breeding and I’m not.

That’s crazy ! Seriously the amount of illegals here are ridiculous in number and though not every single one deserves deportation such as the ones brought as kids who had no choice.
Seriously ? give give what about tax payers when do we get something back from are constant investments? It’s always something for those who are already existing on our tax dollars!
America has become a place of constant betrayals.
The status of a criminal should never be hidden from law enforcement or any other agency.

Sometimes when I feel resentful about illegals having access to all kinds of services I feel a tiny bit guilty like I am being mean or selfish. I just don’t think that people should be rewarded for breaking our laws. The immigrants that would come from other countries in the old days didn’t get free everything. When did we become a nation that would put illegals ahead of their own people? Taxes are killing people that are only trying to make ends meet and that’s where most of the money comes from not churches or donations. In fact the churches take money from the government to help all these people. Just saying sometimes I’m torn.

I know. What you mean. It’s difficult not to be somewhat sympathetic with illegals. Most just want a better life they are fleeing from extreme poverty.
The thing is we just can’t afford to fund every person who just shows up here.
It isn’t fair to us as tax payers and natural born citizens. There has to be limits.
Its a huge issue.with no easy answers.

I agree! I think what really should stop is the “you are a citizen if you are born here.”Non-citizens come here right before the baby is born so their children are Americans and then have access to everything! I’d definitely change that.

It is worse than you think Janet. They come while they are pregnant and get free prenatal care at county supported clinics. Clinic workers are forbidden from reporting them to ICE because to do so would be to release confidential medical information, which is illegal and places the clinic workers at risk for litigation and loss of license. I became aware of this in 1972!

I watched a show once about these homes that are set up for people from I think it was China where they come right before they give birth and stay at these places until the baby is born. It was unbelievable and these people were paying a pretty penny to insure that their children were born in the United States. I couldn’t believe it! It bugs me the way non-citizens take advantage of the US and the programs that were set up for our people. That is a law that they definitely need to get rid of. I think Canada changed their law that was similar. Not 100% sure though.

I think giving welfare automatically should definitely change . That’s something that needs to stop for good. If you can’t support yourself somehow then you need to be deported.
There is plenty of low wage jobs to be had.

Yes I heard about that one.

The experience of which I was speaking is from working in the Los Angeles County Prenatal clinics in the early 1970s. I was a student at the time and took a survey of the clinic attendees for a 2 or 3 month period. All of the recipients of free prenatal care were either illegals from Mexico or Black Americans. One of my questions was “Why are you having this baby?” The Mexicans always replied “so that s/he can be born in the US.” The Blacks, most of whom were under 18, said “So I can get welfare and be independent.” (This was seen as a career move.) Those who already had a child or more said “So that I can get a raise on my welfare check.” (This was a self imposed pay raise.)

At the end of the Summer I prepared an extensive review of my findings which I suspect LA County placed into the circular file never to be seen again.

They ALL need to be deported.
EACH broke the law. All need to be treated EQUALLY under the law for better or worse. When you make exceptions, they will keep coming. Try pulling this crap in Mexico. They immediately deport them. There is NO REASON why they can not come here legally.

The truth is illegal Mexican believe the U.S. is THEIR COUNTRY. I am not kidding you. They IMPLY this in Common Core. Ever hear of La Raza? It means “the race”.

I respect your point of view. However, I can’t help but feel sympathy for many of them
Life in Mexico is true hell for so many. I can’t blame them for wanting what we have here.
But ultimately your right they should make every effort on becoming legal first.

When was the last time CA spent some of that tax money on a water project that would keep their troubled irrigated agricultural segment of their economy out of trouble? That would give those illegals a decent job instead of a government handout. Or does that make too much sense?

Surely someone can inform us less educated if there is indeed recourse for states who comply with the Constitution against other states who defiantly work to overthrow it. If one of the states in the United States declares itself an enemy of the rest, what can and must the other states do?!?
