Tillerson Cuts 2,300 Jobs From Bloated State Department

Let’s hope that as he makes these cuts and streamlines State Department operations, Tillerson clears out the Obama loyalists who are trying to impede President Trump from draining the swamp and implementing needed reforms.

“Tillerson Cuts 2,300 Jobs From Bloated State Department,” by V Saxena, Conservative Tribune, April 29, 2017:

Story continues below advertisement

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has begun fulfilling President Donald Trump’s mission to reduce the size of government and save taxpayers a boatload of money by proposing to eliminate 2,300 jobs at the State Department.

If implemented, the plan would trim the State Department’s budget by more than a quarter and its staff by approximately 3 percent, according to The Associated Press.

The majority of the job cuts would be attained through attrition, or the process of waiting for employees to simply retire, while the remainder would be acquired via buyouts. As noted by The AP, buyouts would be offered first to employees over the age of 50 who have at least two decades of government service under their belts.

The cuts were expected to take approximately two years to materialize, according to Bloomberg, though the results could wind up lasting far longer.

During an interview Friday with NPR, Tillerson explained that he was hoping to make the department far more efficient and effective.

“We are undertaking a reorganization of the State Department, but it’s not just a collapse of boxes,” he said. “What we really want to do is examine the process by which the men and women — the career foreign service people, the civil servants, our embassies — how they deliver on that mission.”

Suffice it to say, just throwing a bunch of people together into one department wasn’t doing the trick. Changes were needed, and he intended to bring forth those changes.

Also on the chopping block were departmental policies: “(T)here are a lot of rules — and people follow the rules, and you look at the rule, and you say … ‘Why do we do it that way?’ And no one can seem to remember why we did it that way.”…

Can’t wait till Schumer and Pelosi start whining about cruelty and starving children as these useless six-figure government workers are pried away from their internet open-viewing at our expense.

Agree. Drain the swamp and flush out the Left/Liberal pro-islam , Pro-jihadi slugs and bugs .

Dems including Obama who have not only denied refugees status to christians from middle east who are real refugee but even have deported christians back to ISIS territory to be slaughtered by ISIS http://tinyurl.com/mtc3xch

At least Trump spoke up for them. If the Left/ liberal corrupt judges .media and politicians stop throwing spanner in the works Trump would stop jihadi immigration and allow christians , the real refugees from middle east and pakistan/Bangladesh etc

Now wait a minute. Not all gov employees watch porn on the tax payer dime. Some do shopping, some chat on FB, while others stalk their exes.

Agreed. There was an actual news report some months ago about a government employee who was let go and the bulk of the items he removed when he cleaned out his desk was a huge cardboard box of downloaded porn CDs.

I think I read the same story, but, as I remember, they let him off with a sternly written warning. One must be convicted of a crime to be fired from the federal government.

Better yet, walk up to any random employee and ask them “just what do you do here?”, and if they can’t give you a coherent answer, give them the old heave ho.

Good start. A small effective government having minimum interference with the individual is best.

This is a classic case of the law of diminishing returns where more is definitely not better. Trump is on the right track with his assertion that for every new regulation put into effect, two old ones have to go. This is simply an extension of the old maxim that in order for a new idea to take hold in Washington, two outdated bad ones have to be uprooted.

It is interesting to note that in his “Memoirs”, Cordell Hull, former Secretary of State under FDR, states that “regulations” are actually new legislation written as a device for circumventing the traditional legislative process.

I heard that Trump while bombing Syria joined the swamp as well

Was that an attempt at humour or sarcasm? It fails badly on both accounts. I actually disagree with the bombing as IMO the DAESH scum used Sarin on their own civilians as a palywood production, but most trump supporters seem to feel the need to support him even when he makes a mistake as IMO he did here.

So if 2300 jobs represents 3% then there are over 75,000 working for the State Department!

What can 75.000 individuals possibly be doing? Just one department? This is just one
example of bloated government.

Nothing against Pamela, but this is just more talk, at this point. We get a LOT of that. More unfulfilled promises. Please write the story when it actually happens.

Tillerson needs to cut about 50% of the state work force because only about 50% of fed bureaucracies’ work force are productive.
