Trump Justice Dept. Threatens to Cut Federal Funding for 9 Major ‘Sanctuary’ Jurisdictions

Enforcing existing immigration law. What a novel idea. After eight years of Obama’s slash-and-burn post-American presidency, it is.

“Justice Dept. Threatens to Cut Federal Funding for 9 Major ‘Sanctuary’ Jurisdictions,” by Sam Dorman, Washington Free Beacon, April 21, 2017:

Story continues below advertisement

The Justice Department on Friday threatened to revoke certain federal grants from nine “sanctuary” jurisdictions if they fail to prove they are in compliance with federal immigration law.

The department sent a letter to eight cities and one county warning they could lose federal funds if they continue to limit communication with the Department of Homeland Security about “information regarding the immigration or citizenship status,” the Washington Examiner reported.

Federal statute 8 USC § 1373 prohibits local and state governments from enacting policies that limit such communication with Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Border Protection.

The jurisdictions that received the letter and other sanctuary cities deny that they violate the federal statute, arguing it only requires sharing immigration status, which they say the do, but not compliance with ICE requests like detainers.

Still, if the jurisdictions fail to prove they are in full compliance, they could lose the Office of Justice Programs Byrne JAG grant, which provides funding for personnel, training, and equipment, among other things.

Sacramento, Chicago, Cook County, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Las Vegas, Miami, Milwaukee, and New York City all received letters and have until June 30, 2017, to provide necessary documentation to the Office of Justice Programs….

Chris Abele, County Executive, here in Milwaukee County wants to enact a $60 per year wheel tax on all vehicles registered in the county. This is in spite of the 2 to 3 No on the recent referendum. Now he wants to spent thousands of our hard earned tax money fighting the AG in court. Just how stupid does Abele think “We the People are?”

Congress didn’t mandate cooperation. Abele will win. Congress can remedy the situation for the next fiscal year, but the rules can’t be changed mid-game (Fletcher v. Peck).

Among many other laws, the USDOJ can issue arrest warrants for:
(in part)
8 U.S. Code § 1324 – Bringing in and harboring certain aliens

“(1) (A) Any person who—
(i)knowing that a person is an alien, brings to or attempts to bring to the United States in any manner whatsoever such person at a place other than a designated port of entry or place other than as designated by the Commissioner, regardless of whether such alien has received prior official authorization to come to, enter, or reside in the United States and regardless of any future official action which may be taken with respect to such alien,”

(Felonies)

Abele is a big Dem and if Congress votes to cut funding then he can go and pound sand on Bradford Beach during our next volleyball tournament. Paul Ryan has the next congressional district to Milwaukee’s 4th.

If he’s a democrat, he’s then not the brightest Crayon in the pack.

Being a democrat…therefore a liberal…he probably thinks everyone, but libs are stupid…and that complete “control” over non-libs is essential.

Do not say “could lose” state why it is being stopped and what will have to be done to get it reinstated.

There isn’t any requirement in either current federal law or the grants to cooperate. Only Congress can implement such through a new law. Trump will lose because of a Congressional error.

From the article: “The department sent a letter to eight cities and one county warning they could lose federal funds if they continue to limit communication with the Department of Homeland Security about “information regarding the immigration or citizenship status,””

The Justice Department is being very kind dealing with these rebellious jurisdictions …. who have no intention of mending their ways

Don’t just threaten to do something. Say you have until June 30 to comply with the law, or funds are cut. Automatically. Without mercy or repentance.

Sessions can’t change the contract terms mid-deal. He is stuck with previous contracts until they expire, and current contracts are silent on cooperation with federal enforcement.

Las Vegas Public Information Officer (Metro spokesperson) keeps trying to tell the public that they are not a sanctuary city and comply with Homeland Security and ICE. That “it’s complicated” and “the report is inaccurate”. The citizens know better. Cut funds.

It’s about time they did something about these ” sanctuary cities ” that protect illegal aliens that have broken the law.
They should start with no federal funds for their highways and school systems and then work from there.
Then they should round up ALL illegals and deport them, file criminal charges against anyone helping illegals to remain in this republic. Let these so called ” Dreamers ” dream of going back across the border where they belong.
Just my 2 cents worth.

To make believers out of the opposition. Stop threatening to cut Federal Funding, and JUST DO IT! Already! Trump was not elected because he made “promising threats,” he was elected to do what he said he would do!

Cut the funds…now. All funds. Let them make up the difference. See how long they last.

Stop threatening and just do it. They will never change. The only way to stop them is to cut off their money. OUR money, by the way.

I am glad these cities were put on notice. But, if that threat is not followed through on then it is just more noise. The politicians who love illegal aliens will ignore threats. So, Sessions and Trump need to be serious and cut those funds or lose all credibility. It’s time to do something serious to show these spineless politicians that the law means what it says.
