Moving your on-premises virtualization infrastructure to the XenApp and XenDesktop Service on Citrix Cloud can deliver many benefits, starting with significantly less work for your team. This service, part of the Citrix Cloud control plane, enables you to hand over the management of XenApp and XenDesktop infrastructure components to Citrix, while retaining control over your data, apps and desktops.

Bottom line — you reduce admin costs and complexity and optimize flexibility regarding the location of your workloads.

Plan ahead

Although it’s an increasingly popular move, migration to the cloud represents a major change for any organization. And changes go more smoothly and successfully when you’ve got a solid plan in place – a plan that spells out how extensive the migration should be, how fast to make the move and whether to take a phased approach.

That’s where Citrix Education comes in.

Our new course, CXD-350: Moving to XenApp and XenDesktop Service on Citrix Cloud, will give you the tools and understanding to devise your migration plan. By enrolling, you can help ensure that the changeover from an on-premises infrastructure to the cloud is accomplished without impacting user access or business processes.

Here are some of the key planning aspects covered by this course:

  • Where to locate your access infrastructure

Should you keep StoreFront and NetScaler Gateway on-premises or move them to the cloud service to be managed by Citrix? What are the pros and cons? And if you want to relocate them in the cloud, when should you make that change?

The course will help you understand the differences between using the Citrix Cloud StoreFront and NetScaler Gateway services and maintaining these components within your own datacenter or a public cloud location. You will learn about communications and authentication, and get hands-on experience configuring both scenarios so you can plan and execute your migration.

  • Where to put your apps and desktops

Is it best to keep workloads in your datacenter or relocate them in a public cloud, such as Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services, to achieve greater scalability and redundancy?

The new course will help you move your apps and desktop to a public cloud by better understanding sizing of your machines and planning capacity in a public cloud environment.  ou’ll hear about Citrix Consulting leading practices, and learn how Citrix Smart Scale can help.

Practice makes perfect

An important benefit of the CXD-350 course is hands-on experience with critical tools such as Citrix Cloud Connectors. The Cloud Connector serves as a channel for communication between Citrix Cloud and your resource locations on premises or in the public cloud. This technology enables cloud management without requiring complex networking or infrastructure configuration such as VPNs or IPSec tunnels.

Our virtual lab environment lets you practice installing and configuring these connectors, migrating on-premises XenApp and XenDesktop infrastructure to the Citrix Cloud and using the XenApp and XenDesktop Service to manage apps and desktops. In other words, it prepares you for the actual migration.

Train for tomorrow

The CXD-350 course is ideal preparation for IT professionals who have previous on-premises XenApp and XenDesktop experience and are interested in moving to Citrix Cloud. For anyone with limited experience, we recommend completing this course first:

Course content is based on XenApp and XenDesktop 7.x CR (Current Release).
