That is the view of Iran’s defence minister, who said on Sunday a new world war was looming after Mr Trump was crowned president-elect last month.
But Hossein Dehghan, who has his finger on Iran’s missile system, added a caveat to his warning – he said that the New York property tycoon was primarily driven by money and Mr Trump may be put off sparking a fresh global conflict as it would cost the US trillions of dollars.
In candid remarks quoted by Iran’s semi-official Mehr news agency, the defence chief said: “Enemies may want to impose a war on us based on false calculations and only taking into consideration their material capabilities.
“Such a war would mean the destruction of the Zionist regime [Israel] and will engulf the whole region and could lead to a world war.”

Referring to small Western-allied Gulf states such as the United Arab Emirates (home to Abu Dhabi and Dubai) as well as Bahrain and Qatar, Mr Dehghan said: “Among other consequences of the war, would be the destruction of the city-states on the southern shore of the Persian Gulf, because they lack popular support.”
Speaking at a security conference in Tehran, he added: “Even though a businessman, the assistants that [Trump] has chosen may map a different path for him, and this has led to unease, particularly among Persian Gulf countries.
“Considering Trump’s character and that he measures the cost of everything in dollars, it does not seem likely that he would take strong action against our country.”

Iran is an arch-enemy of Israel and Tehran and most Gulf states are on opposite sides in Middle East conflicts, with the Islamic republic an ally of President Bashar al-Assad in Syria’s civil war.
Mr Trump’s election victory has raised the prospect the United States will pull out of a nuclear pact it signed last year with Iran.
Barack Obama hailed the agreement as a way to suspend Tehran’s suspected drive to develop atomic weapons.
But Mr Trump has called the nuclear pact a “disaster” and “the worst deal ever negotiated” and has signalled he will take a harder line on Iran.

I hate to say, but I have sensed this coming in 2017.
I think they read Trump wrong; he is a Christian. He’ll protect Israel out of moral obligation. And most people don’t get Israel is the last bastion of Democracy in that region, & the front line to Europe. It goes down, so does the rest of The West.

To all you commentators, “consider the source” and recognize the comments are meant more for his own people, and should be seen as nothing more than a fools rhetoric. Iran is likely continuing to face obstruction from within, and may be headed for conflict with its own people who are, or should be, aware that their autocratic government, where the religious leaders hold sway, and the rich get richer at the cost of its people, a scenario that at some point may burst its bubble, hopefully with the effect of bringing down the theocracy and the militant terrorism that prevails there now. Iran must continue to promote its misdeeds to try to justify the leadership of the totalitarian government, as all of this propaganda seems to reflect. We can only hope that within the next 5 years Iran will face a revolution from its people that might turn it around. Besides, should it not be obvious to right thinking people that the defense minister is speaking gibberish, as any war against Israel would likely end up with the destruction of Iran. Iran must think that American and Israeli’s cannot see the real truth out there. Keep the faith people, history will prove me out.

Not me! I recognize that the belief system that is Islam is a cancerous one, but I believe that in time, based on present world conditions it will consume itself. I have long believed that these people simply cannot assimilate into our free world culture, and I continue to hope that our new leaders will close our doors to this danger represented by the radicals who promote and preach world dominance. I hope that I am right, as future generations and our youth will suffer serious consequences if I am wrong.

Iran think that having their nuclear facilities deep underground makes them safe. Here’s your problem Iran. Doesn’t matter how deep underground they are, there still has to be a door. This defense minister of Iran would be better served by leaving the psychoanalysis of Trump to the professionals. Trump favors a sound fiscal policy but not a disastous foreign policy. Obhammud is the one who doesn’t know the difference. In that Iran nuclear deal, he gave away the keys to the store and got nothing in return for it.
Iran taking military action against the US is the equivalent of a gnat crawling up an elephant’s leg with rape on its mind.

Not just islam and muslims but I believe this is the ONLY time in history when people in free countries have sided with police State against a free State. (Israel). Israel has been around for more than 3,000 years and are surrounded (to date) by countless millions of muslim zombie fanatics, but yet it’s still around. muslims in that region are too afraid to attack her (pipe dreams of muslims) for she will beat them to the draw and big time!! With that said, it’s interesting to note that Israel is the size of NJ and smaller than El Salvador. In fact sane people should admire and support Israel and not hated to the extent that there are some countries (we know who they are do we now neighbor) who would like to see Israel annihilated.
