Ahmed Mohamed is being heralded as “the most famous teenager on earth.”
One of the more interesting factoids from the many simpering, boot-licking press accounts of the poor bomb hoax clockmeister:
Before we left for the television studio, Ahmed had taken me into his bedroom to show me the now-famous desk where everything gets built. I asked if I could take a picture; he nodded and sat on his desk chair holding up a tangle of wires, and, seeing his Koran, grabbed it from his desk and held it up next to the wires.

Clearly the Daily Beast didn’t run that photo. But if the teen is so devout, it would give the school concern, should it not?
His father, a long-time Islamaphobia-huckster, told the press:
“My kid was hurt and was tortured and arrested and mistreated in front of his friends inside of the school.”
Tortured.
Needless to say, their CAIR spokes-supremacist never leaves their side.
“The only real news I have for you is that Ahmed’s not going back to MacArthur,” family spokesperson Alia Salem from the Council on American-Islamic Relations tells me. “But, we’re about to drive to the television studio in a minute. Why don’t you come along? Sit next to Ahmed, you can ask him your questions.”
This is CAIR’s wet dream, and a 14 year old’s, no doubt.
President Obama has invited him to the White House. MIT wants him to enroll. Mark Zuckberg wants him to work at Facebook. Every reporter on Earth wants a few minutes with him, including me.
Alia looks up from her phone: “OK, the two newest that came through are Stephen Colbert and Ellen DeGeneres.”
Ahmed is still in awe, looking at a photo of himself on Twitter.
“Oh, man, they can see my address in the background!”
Ahmed shows me a photo of his clock we find on Twitter and the photo of him in handcuffs and a NASA T-shirt in the police station. I ask him particulars about the incident but he’s lost in Twitter again.
“Ever heard that phrase, ‘15 minutes of fame?’” I ask him.
Ahmed looks at me, fat grin on his face: “This is gonna be soooooo much longer.”
Ahmed may be the most famous teenager on Earth, but he is still a teenager, which means getting permission from his father before traveling.
“Dad, I have to ask you a question,” Alia says, “Stephen Colbert in New York City, The Late Show, wants Ahmed to fly out to New York tomorrow. It’s a really, really, really, really big show.”
“I don’t know,” he replies.
“I want Ellen!” Eyman interrupts, meaning Ellen DeGeneres’s show.
“There’s also Ellen,” Alia patiently nods.
[….]
Ahmed breaks in with news.
“Twitter says they’d like to intern me! Twitter would like to intern me! One hour ago, they said it.”
“Ahmed, what about Stephen Colbert?” Alia asks him.
“Um, OK.” That’s his response to Stephen Colbert. “I heard about the show before.”
Ahmed asks if he can use my phone to Google the Late Show host and then says: “I’m worried about your data.’ I tell him it’s unlimited. “OK, phew.”
We watch the opening 30 seconds of a Colbert segment and Ahmed nods, “Yeah, I think I’ve seen him before.”
Half an hour later I’m in the control room at the studio watching Ahmed and Alia talking to Chris Hayes on MSNBC.
The school said:
“Perhaps upon release of that photo there may be a little bit different perception about what took place, and people might have a better understanding of how we were doing everything with an abundance of caution to protect all of our students in Irving,”
How naive. As if the media gives a flying fig about what really happened. They have their islamofauxbia narrative and they are going to club their readers like baby seals.

I have a stupid question: if the kid wanted to build a clock, why did he have to make one that looks like that? I know what a clock looks like. I’ve have lots of them. I also watch Criminal Minds and what looks like a bomb. Does he think anybody would want to buy a clock from him that looks like that? Where do you look at it to see what time it is? And you who are reading this: If you walked up to a briefcase, opened it, and saw this thing inside, would you go, “gee, I wonder what time it is”, or would you run like hell? I think you know.

Building a clock that looks like a bomb is cool. I get that. What I also get is that he knew it did look like a bomb when he took it to school. What I also get is that he did not expect anything to happen because he is primarily a dumb kid. What good is a clock that looks like a bomb if it doesn’t work like one too? He wired the electronic components inside aluminum case properly as a functioning timing device and detonator. All the information is on line. That;s really cool to a 14 year old. I get that. All he needed was some Semtex. The real question hen is: Could he get it ? Did he ask the teacher for some?

Just because it looks like that to you doesn’t justify the baseless suspicion that it is one, particularly when it is revealed that no, this clock was in fact not an explosive device.
Ahmed is a science student with an obvious gift and curiosity for electronics. In designing a rudimentary device, he probably used what he had on hand to accomplish the task. The design was in all likelihood the last thing on his mind over whether it was functional, a common issue for engineers of all stripes.
In any case, even granting it does look somewhat like a suitcase bomb, by the time the school and LEOs realized it wasn’t a weapon they should have immediately released Ahmed and apologized. Instead, he was jailed on baseless anti-Muslim discrimination, and that violates his 14th Amendment rights.

Noone is blaming the teachers but as soon as the cops determined it was not a bomb and the kid asked to call his parents he should have been given a phone call and this would have ended within an hour.

Still – considerably a more viable ‘paranoia’ instrument than the dreaded pistol-shaped-pop tart.
And by all means get back to us when somebody actually gets around to prosecuting a school for ‘interrogation w/o a parent or lawyer’. That’s about as likely as schools actually stopping it because it’s illegal. American K-12 public education jumped the ‘restrained by rights’ shark some time ago. This is hardly an isolated – or ‘targeted via religion’ case. It’s institutionalized absurdity.

How silly of me. I guess that makes it totally inconspicuous. Idiot! Teenage muslims are being indoctrinated and volunteering for jihad, this kid shows up to school with a bomb-clock – I’m sure you’ve seen it, just a regular clock – and you can’t understand why school officials took corrective action. When my daughter was 14, I got a call from the police department to tell me she was in custody because some customer at Starbucks saw her waving a yellow plastic gun with an orange tip around. I came and got her, admonished her not to do that again, was respectfull of the law, and took her home. So spare me your sob story about this little punk who made a clock that looks like a bomb, you sorry ass liberal apologist.

I have no problem with him being arrested or interrogated but follow the law! The police in your case followed the law and turned her over to you. The school officials allowed him to be interrogated without a parent present as required by Texas law and then arrested him and took him to juvy jail without calling them as required by Texas law.

Technicalities, whatever. My daughter should have never been taken to jail. She was 14 and it was obviously a toy to any moron who saw it. She wasn’t in school, she was at a Starbucks at night, and some patron, obviously a liberal, called the police, instead of just asking, ” hey kid, is that loaded/”, and they took her to jail. If the Texas police made some procedural errors, so be it. It remains that this kid built a clock that looks like a bomb. I’ve seen it several times. It’s obvious that we don’t view caps in the same light. I also do not view them as shouting as do some. I do believe they are much more dificult to read that when using normal capitalization. Thus, most of the comment is ignored.
So tell me, Miss Patricia … do you view the ‘high road’ as “WHAT A STUPID REPLY! YOUR HEADS UP YOUR ASS … ” or possibly “ARE YOU A RADICAL OR JUST PICKY UNI?” ? If so, you and I will have to agree to disagree on several points of civility.

Some people are hard wired to always type in upper-case, and no matter how many times you point out that it’s unnecessary they just keep on doing it. I think that upper-case typers believe that it adds weight to their comments, others perhaps feel that it makes them sound more important than they are.

Something in this conversation about
ALL CAPS woke up one of my brain cells. My father and my brother, both of whom served in the military, (long before computers) ALWAYS wrote in block caps- letters, notes, greeting cards, everything. I never saw my dad use cursive, and, after his service, never saw my brother use cursive. I thought it was a military thing. (Or, for some people, it could be a workplace thing.)
I do not know if this is relevant to TYPING in all caps, but am willing to accept that it might be.
For some people, it might be related to keyboard skills, as well. I took typing in school, and typed on the job, but maybe some people do not have the same experience.

I have a hard time reading lower case replies on the computer unless I zoom to over 200 at which the writing goes off the page. Reading something written in caps is a LOT better for my old eyes. I well understand the problems of people with disabilities!

The device wasn’t a bomb, so at that point when the school and the police realized it, they were both in the wrong. Ahmed never should have been arrested nor should he have been suspended as there is zero evidence of any wrongdoing. We are not in the business of promoting blind hatred and fear of people based on their identity. Muslims are Americans too and deserve to be treated with respect like you would treat your neighbors.

It is against the law to perpetrate a hoax. Laws have been passed so that the penalty for a hoax is identical to that of a real event. A person can not mail an envelope of cornstarch to someone to scare them into thinking it is anthrax powder, the legal penalty is the same. If you plant a phony bomb somewhere, the legal punishment is the same as if it were a REAL bomb.

1. The clock was a project for his engineering class. 2. He had shown it to multiple teachers throughout the day, so, it was already verified by faculty members that it wasn’t a bomb. 3. If they were doing their job, they would not have kept it with them while they waited for the police, and they number one priority would have been to evacuate the school. They did absolutely nothing of what any person would have done if they were confronted with a student bringing a bomb to school, except for calling the police.

When I was a teenager, we made clocks in wood shop, not one looked like a bomb. That….. looked either like a bomb, or a reasonable facsimile, I truly believe that “clock” was built with the design to provoke ANY kind of reaction, this is just their best case scenario. If I had built something as a teenager that scared a school and provoked this reaction, my dad would have kicked my ass. And rightfully so. Just like toy guns at school get a reaction, so should a toy bomb,his father dropped the ball, if his concern was for the public.But it’s not, it’s about as much attention as possible for the poor poor persecuted mosloms.

I have a computer chip on my wrist that keeps time just fine. Its a Timex. But it is probably too low powered to trigger a detonator. I don’t know why he needed all that circuitry to build a clock when my chip is probably 3/8 in square. but if so it would have enough power to trigger a detonator.
So in conclusion, he should be in prison for a bomb hoax. And his father should be in the next cell.

OMG, was he waterboarded? Was he put in a cage and burned alive? He wasn’t beheaded, was he? By his subsequent admission, he has great aspirations of going to MIT. How tortuous can that be? A dry run how the teacher/school would respond? Something is not adding up here. I read different articles on different sites, and nowhere could I find that this was a “bring your home made stuff to school” day. This kid comes into the English class with a suitcase full of wires saying “look at my clock”……. Just a few short yrs ago one of the Boston bombers who was only 4 yrs older made a bomb out of a pressure cooker, and this teacher is not suppose to be cautious???

Pamela speaks the truth. She says things in public that I would like to say, but have to keep it to myself for fear of losing my job in this PC society. There can be no good outcome where Muslims are allowed to live. There can be no peace with them around. If you disagree with that statement, go live among them in the middle east, Africa, or Dearborn, Michigan and see how they treat you.

We live among them here in the United States without any interruption to peace. D/FW happens to have one of the largest Muslim populations within the United States and we are not under any risk whatsoever of being abused or threatened by Muslims.
If you wish to embrace bigotry as your personal default, knock yourself out, but the rest of us will continue living our lives without promoting dehumanization of our fellow American over differences in identity. You can be as racist and hateful as you like, but the rest of society is not under any obligation to condone or tolerate such tyrannical behavior.
