We make this too – I use 1 cup sugar to 1 cup water and it’s still syrupy and plenty sweet. It also stores in the fridge indefinitely. If you need syrups that are free of food dyes, you can make them with extracts instead (do doublecheck the label of the extract) of koolaid packets. I’ve made vanilla syrup that way and it was really good.

I found an ice shaver at target for 75% off last year, only $7.50 and my kids had been bugging me for over a year to buy one. I didn’t want to buy the expensive syrups and so I looked around until I found this recipe. It is great, especially with Grape and Cherry flavors. My kids love it. I never thought about freezing the syrup, that is great to know that it can be stored in the freezer.
