Cacique Awards Nominations Extended to September 7th

January 2011 saw the final year that The Bahamas’ most prestigious awards ceremony in the tourism industry was to be held annually. It had been decided that it would become bi-annual, with the next event being held January 2013. The date has been set for January 27th, 2013, and with the event being less than 5 months away, the deadline for award nominations is fast approaching. The final day to submit nominations was Friday, August 31, but has now been extended to September 7th. 

Guidelines for Submissions are detailed below:

Any member of the public may cast a nomination for the general awards, the Minister of Tourism's Hospitality Award or the Clement T Maynard Lifetime Achievement Award. There is no limit to the number of people that one person may nominate. The same person may be nominated for more than one award if he/she is making a contribution in more than one area.

To be eligible for the awards, the nominees must be permanent residents of The Bahamas, whose product or performance has a positive impact on the quality development of Bahamian tourism. Nominees must be consistent high performers. Nominations for awards in the Hotel Sector must come from members of the Bahamas Hotel Association and meet BHA criteria, sanctioned by the Cacique Blue Ribbon Panel. Employees of the Ministry of Tourism and its agencies are not eligible for nomination.

Nomination Categories:

TRANSPORTATION: The Nominee has consistently provided exemplary service and/or helped to improve transportation through innovation (Incl. Taxis, Airlines, Local Tour Operators, Jitneys, Water Taxis, Ferries and Surreys)

HUMAN RESOURCES DEVELOPMENT: The Nominee has contributed to the development of professionalism in the tourist industry. (Incl. Teachers, Lecturers, & HR Managers)

SPORTS & LEISURE EVENTS: The Nominee has helped to promote the growth of tourism in such areas as golf, tennis, regattas, fishing, water sports, triathlons or festivals

CREATIVE ARTS: The Nominee has made significant contribution to tourism in the area of painting, sculpture, pottery, writing, music, performing arts or photography

HANDICRAFT: The Nominee has created quality Bahamian handicraft (Please submit samples of work. Actual item(s) preferred, but color photos or digital images are acceptable)

SUSTAINABLE TOURISM AWARD

(1) An individual, organization or group which has developed a tourist attraction or facility for the enjoyment of visitors that promotes harmony with the environment

OR

(2) An individual, organization or group that strengthens linkages between tourism and other sectors of the economy.

THE MINISTER'S AWARD: A person (working or retired) who has exemplified Bahamian hospitality toward visitors.

THE CLEMENT T. MAYNARD LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD: A person (working or retired) who has made an outstanding contribution to the growth of tourism for twenty years or more.

Nomination Criteria:

- Submissions must have a minimum of 1 full page (maximum of 2) of info on why the selected nominee deserves the award.

- Submissions must include a STUDIO Colour head & shoulder PHOTOGRAPH

- If an artist, photographer, writer, or any other artist is nominated, samples of their work must be submitted for consideration.
