Freeport, Grand Bahama
native, Adam Miller, a senior at Florida Air Academy (FAA), Melbourne,
Florida, has been named a member of the FAA “Wing Diamond”, an honor
awarded to only 5 students at Florida Air Academy each year, following
completion of the FAA Leadership School.
Securing an invitation to Leadership School, an invitation only, week-long
event, required a review of Millers behavior and grades, and the recommendation
of two Florida Air Academy faculty members. Interviews for slots were
conducted in the spring of 2012, and 60 boys and girls, international
and domestic, were invited to attend the prestigious event.
Miller participated in an intense extended- day program of mental
and physical activity and attended lectures on the challenges of leadership,
communication and dealing with issues such as bullying and social diversity.
Classes were conducted by civilian and military personnel, both on
and off the Florida Air Academy campus.
During the course of the week, the 60 students in attendance were
scored, reviewed, and interviewed for the 5 primary leadership positions,
“The Wing Diamond”, within the Florida Air Academy student cadre.
Remarking on the program, Deborah Dwight, Vice President of F.A.A.
said, “It’s a major honor to be chosen, and it carries a lot of
responsibility within the school. The Wing Diamond is the ‘face’
of the Academy, leading student groups during parades and special events,
mentoring and motivating, and working on volunteer projects. It’s
a fantastic preparation for their future lives at college and in the
business world.”
